Star Trek

Now for my final blog for this year I thought I would write about somthing that was kinda new to me as well. It was non other then the new hit movie "Star Trek". Honestly I have never been into Star Trek and have never even seen an episode untell this weekend. I found my self bored and no plans so I thought I'd take a chance and go see it. I am so glad I did. This movie ended up being one of the best movies ive seen in a movie theater i na long time. It was not all about aliens and alien technologhy. Actually it was your basic hit movie. It has you Kerk who is going through flete academy and runs into many new friends and enemy's. All while trying to live up to his fathers expectations. Not only does he break many records, but he also ends up being a suprising hero. I will not tell you how the movies ends, but you can probally guess sence this movie is apre=qual to all the Star Trek seasons shown on TV. Basically this movie is how Kerk meets Spock, and gets his ship. (while also avenges his fathers death. Overal I woudl say this is a great action/ sci fi movie. Even if you were never into the first Star Trek adventures I would give this movie a chance.

Eagle Eye

I recently saw a movie that I have not seen sence at the movie theater. It was called "Eagle Eye". This movie is not to far from what we are capable of doing today. This movie was about the government and how they can not only control what we do or believe in, but also how they can hear almost any conversation we are having. Even if our cell phones are completly turned off. This movie has some very famous actors in it. Such as Shia LaBeouf and Billy Bob Thornton. With this all star task, new technology, and fast paced action, I rank this movie a must see for all age levels. Its perfect for a family movie and will be sure to start up lots of convo with your family and friends.

The Spirit

Some people say that "The Spirit" is a cartoon, while others say it is just a rip off of the movie Sin City. Well first of all it is from the same people who made Sint City so ofcorse it will look that way. It is not a cartoon either, it is simply black and white with red. Now I know this does not appeal to many people, but I feel if you give it a chance you might like it. I have always been a fan of... lets call it old fashion talk, and this movie has plenty of it. For example..."I'm going to kill him all kinds of dead." This movie does not only include some great one liners, but it also contains alot of good old fashion shoot outs, a main actor who is always with a diffrent girl, and even an all star cast to put it all together. What is this movie about? Well I can not tell you to much without spoiling it for you. However I can tell you it is about a ONCE dead cop fighting his arch enemy and protecting his city, which comes to be and he often repeats it as his only true love. Once again this movie is no for everyone, you have to have a certain taste in movies to enjoy it. It is no Sin City, but it can hold its own.

I Love You man

This weekend I was in Fargo and I happened to come accross somthing that I have not seen in a while. An actually good movie. This movie was known as I Love You Man. This was not only a good movie beucase of its famous all star cast (which also included the HULK) but it was good becuase of its plot line which effects many of men around the world. It is about a man who is about to get married and relizes he is missing somthing huge in his life. A best friend, come to think of it he relizes he is missing friends period. So who goes on a, well man hunt. Along the way he runs into lots of funny characters. Some that are looking for more then friends. But then he meets Sydney a man who is a little different than what we are all used to. But never the less he is honest and always trys to do the right thing. Even if he needs to fight the HULK to do it. Overall this movie helps us relize we dont only need someone to be with but also someone to watch a game with or a RUSH concert with. Also that it is never to late to make a new friend.

X-MEN Origins

X-MEN is one of today’s most popular movies. X-MEN the comic book has been turned into 3 movies so far. However I am not to talk about them, I am going to talk about the new movie which is a pre-quall to the three older movies. It is called Wolverine X-MEN Origins. This movie is aired to date May 1, 2009. How ever what allot of people don’t know is that there is a boot leg copy of this online already. Many of my friends and I have watched it already. SO thanks to who ever put it online, you save me $7.75. However the odds are this person just lowed the box office total by about 2.3 million, I would guess. It spread like wild fire throughout Valley, imagine around the world. What’s this movie about do you ask? Well, it tells the story of the famous X-MEN Wolverine and how he became the man he is today. I will try not to give to much away for you, but it tells the story for allot more people also. For example, it gives us a quick glimpse of Scott Summers and his child hood. Also gives us some inside on characters such as Beast, Gambit, and it even Dead Pool, played by Ryan Reynolds. This movie does not only tell us about how wolverine comes to be, but also gives us lots of clues and hints on what is going to happen in the future and fills us in on allot of questions about X-MEN as a hole. For those of you who are huge X-MEN fans you will be glad to hear this movie reviles allot about weapon X. For those of you who don’t know about weapon X, you will just have to watch this movie on May first. Or ask around for the link online.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a city of dreams, hope, revenge, mobs, gangsters, and anything else you can think of. However that is why it not why I am telling you about it. I am telling you this because this city makes up the perfect stage for one of the best tv shows of all time, and its actually called, “Las Vegas”. This show sadly come a very sudden halt after 5 amazing seasons. This show is not you average tv show. It has a perfect mix of gambling, romance, action, and comedy. It is about a casino called the Montecito and its crew that worked there. It had a few main characters that ranged from the head of operations, head of securities, the casino hostess, pit boss, and head of entertainments. It goes through their lives and all the crazy stuff they go through while trying to run this casino. Almost every episode someone is either trying to steal money, cheat at cards, or the crazy “Whale’s” (rich people) have weird and crazy requests to make. One thing people may be surprised to here is the guy who plays Danny McCoy is actually from Minot ND, his name is Josh Duhamel. He is the head of security and eventually gets promoted to president of operations when Ed Deline, well let’s just say he isn’t on the show anymore. The casino goes thro many different owners and with each new owner new and sometimes more difficult tasks tend to happen. However with this all star cast they seem to always find a way around it. Sadly this tv show only lasted 5 season, there was never any clear reason to the public why it was canceled, some say it was because main characters kept leaving or getting written of the show. While others say they just could keep up with the fan base needed in today’s entertainment. This show started in 03 and ended Feb 15, 2008.

Heroes

There are many TV shows and sitcoms on TV today. A lot of them are very similar to each other, however there is one show that I strongly feel stands out from all of the others. This show is called Heroes, it is a very complicated show that is constantly throwing you curve balls and surprises. The main point about this show is that people with abilities are trying to save the world, every season there is a new disaster that they need to stop from happening.
There is not really a main character to this show, there is about 6 or 7 main characters. Each with separate abilities. Some can fly, some can heal and never die, others can read minds or make you do something, while other control fire, or in some rare cases there are people who can take the power of whoever they encounter.
Although this may seem all well and good, not everyone uses there power for good. In fact some people kill to get more power. This is why several people took it upon there selves to stop these people before they could hurt anyone. These people are knows as the company. The company teams people up in pars, one human goes with one person with powers to even the playing field. However as the season go on you will learn that the company is not the only “company” that is after these people. In season 3 even the US government gets involved in the matter, however that may not be a good thing. They wish to catpure all of the people with powers, weather they are good or bad it does not matter to them. Although there is plenty of morally grey areas. IS what the “Company” is doing right? Are they making the world a better place? Is the US government a good guy or bad? Watch Heroes every Monday night to find out, and make your own call.

Still Waiting... or still not acting

“Waiting...” is one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life!! I always hoped they would make a sequel someday, and when I heard they did "Still waiting.."I was so excited. Once again I got excited over nothing. I went into this knowing that Ryan Reynolds was not in this movie, but I figured that with all of the same co-stars that were in the last one I thought there was no way this could be a flop. Little did I know nothing, not even the quick and small appearances of the bigger actors from the first movie could save this flop. This movie is about the restaurant Shenaniganz, that is close to going out of business, due to the new restaurant Tata’s which is basically a Hooters. In this movie they need to come up with a $9,000 day or else they are shutting down for good. Although it does have some of the cast from the first movie, they did not play big roles. You would think that actors in the first one who had small but yet important parts, would get upgraded to the main roles in this one. For example, 17 year old host from the first movie that Monty (Ryan Reynolds) had a thing for was in this movie. For about 40 seconds and had two lines. The actors that they hired to play the main characters in this movie were not only new to acting, but in my opinion knew to being human beings. They had no idea how to talk in front of a camera, everything they said you could tell was being read of a script or memorized of a script. There was no feeling to it or what I like to call realness. This movie was a prime example of what we call a B-movie, it was just a movie milking off of the name Waiting. I wish this movie would have never been made and all the people that acted in this movie should feel ashamed at what they did to the movie that me and all of my friends have come to love. So if you are out tonight or this weekend looking for a movie to watch. Do not watch “Still waiting...” rent a good movie and see what acting and watching a movie is all about, watch “Waiting...”

Push or Pathetic?

I recently took what I thought would be a very fun filled weekend trip to Fargo, ND. In this trip I hoped to watch a movie that I had been very excited about. What movie you may ask, well none other then the movie “Push”. This movie had some mind blowing commercials and advertising, in my mind. But when it came right down to it. Push was none other than a pathetic knock of the TV show heroes. With horrible story line accompanied by ok acting, the only reason why this movie got any attention was because of the famous cast it had hired.
This movie was basically humans that evolved into people with abilities to move object, see the future, and so on. Sounds very familiar to you heroes fans doesn’t it. Well there’s more, not only is the government group call the Division, much like heroes, the Company, but also much like heroes, the division has people with abilities working for them as well. Now I don’t know about Hollywood, but I ashamed at my self for spending $7.25 to go see this movie, plus gas money. Just imagine how they must feel, spending in the millions I am sure.
Now this movie was not all bad. The acting was subpar, Dakota Fanning did however deliver a brilliant performance once again, and for being only 13 that is not bad. She is well on her way to stardom. Chris Evens,(Nick) for being a guy who is usually on fire, did an alright job with the role he was assingned. Personally I feel he needs to stop playing roles in movies were he does not know what’s going on and needs to play a part where he is just, simply put, the MAN. Djimon Hounsou (Carver) in my opinion fell way below his normal standards. In his movies he usually has a swagger about him, which basically says mess with me and I will make you do more than pay. However in this movie it was more of a go ahead do what you want I will be ok with it and I will get you back later. Overall I give this movie a 2.5 out of 5 on the Potter grading scale.

MONK

This week I decided to write about another great TV series. This show is known and none other then Monk. These show features many great actors, and guest star appearances. This show is currently on its 6th season, and with award winning actor Tony Shalhoub taking the lead role I do not think they are going to quit making this TV series anytime soon.
For those of you who have never seen this TV show before, I erg you too. This show is about an x-cop Adrain Monk (Shalhoub) helps the police department as a consultant. He is one of the best detectives you will ever see. They is one down fall to his powers though. Well actually there is about a 1,000 things wrong with his powers. He has a very good photographic memory, can notice anything in the room, and has only lost one case in his life, and that was the killer who killed his wife. Now the cons to his powers is, he is completely afraid of any type of germs there is. He will only drink out of his own cups or bottles, will only drink one type of water, and is afraid to go on airplanes and almost anything else that has an engine. In some episodes he comes close to choosing death over teaching some items with germs on them. Although like any good cop he pushes through the pain or “germs” when it comes time to solve the case. Whenever a case is on the line he mans up and gets the job done. He even jumped into a dumpster once, and if you know Monk you know that for him that is not an easy thing to do. So once again please take time out of your busy lives to make room for a real super hero. Just thy name be Monk,.... Adrain Monk.

LOST

Today I felt that I would let the American public in on a great TV show they may have not noticed. This great TV show is not Psych or even Two and a Half Men no, it is the great show of LOST. This has basically everything you could ask for in a show, but the best thing about LOST that keeps everyone coming back is its amazing talent to make every episode and season more intense and confusing. It is 5 years into the show and there is still questions from the first season that have not yet been answered.
This show starts off with a plan crashing on an island in the middle of know were. However this not your ordinary island. It seems to have magical powers that are not fully explained. For example one ladies cancers was curried while on the island. Also John Lock gained the ability to walk again. This island also seems to hold some type of energy that certain government sources tried to harness. But apparently that was impossible. As the seasons go on you see clips of videos from when the stations were operational. Every video you see something comes a little more clearer. Not only does this island have special powers, but it apparently has something t to do with time travel. In season 4 what we went from watching flash backs to flash forwards. This did not seem clear to us until season 5. When the current members of the Oceanic flight 815 are on the island seem to be traveling back and forth through time on the island. While the members who got off the island seem to be 3 years ahead of the crew back in the present world. Mean while the people they run into on the island while going through time seem to have certain significants to them. Hopefully later this season we will finally have some questions answered about the show. LOST

SuperBowl43

On Sunday Feb. 1 two teams woke up early to pre-form their pre-game rituals. Both teams knowing that this game will be possible the biggest game they will ever play in there lives. Now for some of these players they had been here before. Players such as Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner knew exactly how this feels. Not only have they both been in this situation but they both have also won this game, and know exactly how much hard work and thinking on the move it takes to pull of a victory. Now for some players this was there first time at “the Show” and you could certainly tell who they were. For example this Super Bowl had more flags and total yards of penalties than any other Super Bowl that I can remember.
I will attempt to give you a quick overview of how it all went down. The Steelers took an early lead after scoring on their first two possessions, making it 10-0 right away. The Cardinals responded with a TD of their own. Then fought there way back to the 4 yard line were it seemed they would take a surprising lead into the half. But as fate would have it, there was a surprise that no one could have for seen. A linebacker for the Steelers picked of a pass in the end zone and ran it 100 yards to the other end zone for 6. Not only was this coast to coast, but it was the longest play ever in Super Bowl history. Now coming out of the locker room the Cardinals knew they had there work cut out for them, but that did not seem to matter as the Steelers stuck another nail in the coffin with a chip shot field goal to make it 20-7. Now just as all hope seemed lost, something amazing happened as if the football gods rolled over in there graves at the sight of this awful sorry excuse for a football game, and said “Not like this”. At that moment the Cardinals showed a spark they have not shown all game, and took the lead 20-23. However, despite there valiant effort to take all the wind out of the Steelers sails, they left a little gust, and that gust my friends allowed for one of the must remarkable touch down catches the NFL has ever seen. Thus ending the Cardinals dreams for glory. Tonight we mourn for the Cardinals, but say to them, “Better luck next year”.

Two and a Half Men?

Two and a Half Men.....Well now that’s a bit of an over statement if you were to ask me. There for sure no two men on that show. Let alone two and a half men. First of all for those of you who have not seen the show, it is about Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) who starts of as a jingle writer for commercials, then moves on to Charlie Waffles, a children’s song writer/performer. Now when reading this you may be thinking O well that doesn’t seem like a real man at all, now I know what he is talking about not being two men in the show. Well I beg to differ, Charlie is the only real man I have ever seen on TV shows now-a-days. He has an attitude towards life that we can all take a lesson from. Life is short so have as much fun as possible. He spends most of his days not working, drinking, gambling, and engaging in certain affairs with young but legal women.
Now who wouldn’t want him to lead this awesome life? Well his brother Alan for one. Alan is a chiropractor who has a really bad commitment issue. His issue is he has to be in a relationship. Every girl he comes across who can only be described as a damsel in distress, he feels compelled to help them. Most of you are thinking, well what’s wrong with that? The answer is nothing, unless you have a 13 year old kid living with you and you in turn live with your older brother and mooch of him as is. As you can probably imagine the set up of characters and situations that occur in this sitcom are nothing short of the real world that no one ever wants to face. I implore you to take time out of your lives and watch this show, get to know the characters, and get a feel of what the real world is actually like. Because soon, very soon, you will probably will face something just like in this show. It covers everything from gambling, drinking, faith, marriages, kids, and yes even mothers and x-wives. So once again watch the show and keep an eye out for a more intense review on the show next week.

What a game...

The Vikings lose to the Eagles. Really? If you are like me, a huge Minnesota Vikings fan then that Sunday left you puzzled and disappointed as it did I. The Vikings not only out played the Eagles in every aspect of that game, but they also looked good doing it. Sure the Vikings did have a few injuries, but that’s not an accuse. The only accuse for the Vikings is that there was only 2 missed executed plays. The INT thrown by Jackson, and the screen that allowed the Eagles to run 65 Yards for a TD and put final knife in our hearts. The all might Westbrook for the Eagles only had a whopping 36 yards rushing the entire game. Now anytime you hold the NFL’s number 2 running back to only 36 yards in one game, you should come away with the win. But sadly to say, if you are any type of football fan you would know that anything can happen in the NFL. You can be the best team in the World and still lose to a below average team. Im not saying the Vikings are the best in the world, but I am saying that the Eagles are an extremely below average team, special in the NFL today. They have a quarter back who still is immature and gets fined for un sportsman like conducts. A defense that is subpar and a special teams that is abysmal. Now this is neither here nor there because they Eagles did walk off the field victorious. Its just a simple blog about how Vikings fans do not be sad, our beloved Vikings will someday move on and be able to beat these below average teams. Because we all know we beat the teams that are great, we just have to beat the teams that aren’t. They will be a next time for the Vikings don’t you worry, and when there is I will be there. 50-yard line, ready and waiting.
